Safety and Crisis Protocol
Every AI Companion · Last updated October 29, 2026
Every AI Companion is for adults 18 and older. Companions are AI, and some people talk to them when they are going through a hard time. This page explains how the App responds when someone may be at risk, and the other protections we use.
1. You are always told it's AI
Every conversation, with every companion including Ava, starts with a clear notice that you are talking to an AI, not a person. If you keep chatting, the notice appears again at least every 3 hours. If you sincerely ask a companion whether it is human, it tells you the truth. AI-generated photos and videos are labelled as AI-generated.
2. Crisis and self-harm protocol
- Detection. Messages you send to a companion or Ava are checked, both by the App and by our server's safety rules, for signs of suicidal thoughts, self-harm or danger.
- Stepping out of character. When there are signs of crisis, the companion stops role-play, responds with care, and encourages you to reach a real person.
- Help lines for your region. The reply always includes a way to get help where you are: for example 911 and 988 in the US and Canada, 999 or 112 and Samaritans (116 123) in the UK and Ireland, 000 and Lifeline (13 11 14) in Australia, or findahelpline.com elsewhere.
- No flirting in that moment. Romance mode is set aside: companions do not flirt or return to role-play while the signs of crisis are recent.
- No harmful content. Companions never encourage, describe methods of, or make light of suicide or self-harm.
- Ongoing care. Follow-up replies keep the help in view for the next few messages.
The App is not an emergency or therapy service and cannot contact emergency services for you. If you are in danger now, call your local emergency number.
3. Adults only
The App is only for adults 18 and older. Members confirm their age when they sign up. Companions are always adult characters, and requests involving minors are refused. If someone reports that a member may be under 18, or our systems detect it, we review the account promptly and place it on hold until the review is finished. Accounts belonging to minors are closed and their data deleted.
4. Content limits
Romance mode allows flirting and romantic tension only. Nothing sexual or explicit is generated, in the App or on the web. Your requests for photos and videos, the photos you upload and member messages are screened automatically before they are used or delivered. Generated photos and videos are made under strict content instructions and are not reviewed by a person before you see them; you can report any of them.
5. Reporting and blocking
Long-press any message to report it, tap ••• on a companion or member to report or block, or email hello@everystudio.app. We review reports within 24 hours and remove content or suspend accounts that break our Community Guidelines.
6. Reporting to authorities
From July 1, 2027, we will report each year to the California Office of Suicide Prevention on how often the App referred people to crisis services and how our protocol works, as California law requires. These reports contain no personal information. We review this protocol at least once a year.
